The Spanish-Egyptian archaeological mission, led by the University of Cádiz, began its 2024 season at the northeast corner of Karnak, focusing on preserving scattered sandstone blocks that hold centuries of history. These blocks, adorned with inscriptions and carvings, face significant threats from environmental stress, plant encroachment, and past restoration efforts that used incompatible materials. Our mission combines traditional archaeological methods with modern technology like 3D laser scanning, photogrammetry, and non-destructive testing to document every detail of the blocks’ current state. This meticulous work will help us understand the causes of decay and develop strategies to protect these invaluable remnants of Egypt’s past. Stay with us as we share insights, discoveries, and progress from this exciting field season, every stone has a story to tell!
